As we approach the holidays, remember to take time to breathe and practice mental wellness. Time to unwind, de-stress, and reconnect. In this small group 30-minute meditation you will start by learning proper breathing technique, move into restorative stretching, and end with mindful meditation to relax the body and mind.
Mindfulness and meditation are techniques that help unfurrow your brow, oxygenate your brain and circulate blood flow throughout your body. A fascinating study on meditation, published over a period of years in three different medical journals, documented that those practicing meditation for five years were physiologically 12 years younger than their non-meditating counterparts. Even the short-term participants were physiologically five years younger than the control group. The positive results were noted to endure when a follow-up study was conducted more than 10 years later.
Meditation can change the entire profile of endocrine, neurotransmitter and hormone secretions, easing you into a calm, healing, anti-aging state. High levels of tension can spike hormone production that leads to breakouts. Controlling stress keeps your skin zen.
According to Dharma Singh Khalsa, M.D., author of Brain Longevity, “thoughts represent a release of energy from the subconscious mind to the conscious mind.” Different techniques such as breath-work, mantra repetition and mindfulness, are the vehicles that keep meditation playful and possible.
Meditation takes on many forms. Stillness can be found anywhere–while in nature, on your favorite bike trail, hike, or on the yoga mat. The only requirement – be fully present.
